Anthony Joshua Car Crash: Boxer Reportedly Involved in Fatal Accident in Nigeria
Anthony Joshua car crash reports have emerged after the two-time world heavyweight champion was allegedly involved in a serious road accident in Nigeria that reportedly claimed two lives.
According to Punch newspaper, the Lexus SUV linked to the Anthony Joshua car crash collided with a stationary truck along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State. The incident reportedly occurred while the boxer was travelling in a convoy.
The publication further stated that the vehicle’s registration details were included in the report, along with a photograph showing Joshua seated in the back of the SUV surrounded by shattered glass.
Local reports claim the 36-year-old, whose parents are Nigerian, sustained minor injuries in the crash. However, two people were said to have died at the scene. Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
An eyewitness identified as Adeniyi Orojo, who described himself as part of the rescue effort, gave a detailed account of what happened.
Orojo told Punch that the convoy consisted of two vehicles — a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. He said Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another passenger beside him, while a separate security vehicle followed behind.
According to the witness, there were four occupants inside the Lexus at the time of the crash. He added that he and other bystanders immediately attempted to assist the victims and flagged down passing motorists for help.
“Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived a few minutes later,” Orojo said, claiming that the passenger seated beside the driver and another individual died at the scene.
Joshua is currently in Nigeria following his recent boxing appearance in the United States. The London 2012 Olympic gold medalist defeated Jake Paul in Miami on December 19, stopping the former YouTuber in the sixth round of their eight-round bout at the Kaseya Center.
The heavyweight star had been expected to return to the ring early next year, with a potential summer showdown against Tyson Fury previously discussed before Fury’s retirement announcement.
